Capsular Contracture
Thickening of the natural capsule around the implant — uncommon with modern techniques; revisable if it occurs.
Implant Malposition
Rare; can be corrected if the implant shifts from its planned position.
Rippling
Visible implant ripples can occur in thin patients; usually subtle and minimised by implant choice.
Sensation Changes
Temporary nipple sensation changes are common and usually resolve over months.
Implant Rupture
Rare with modern implants; usually identified on imaging and resolved with implant exchange.
Need for Future Surgery
Implants are not lifetime devices — most last 10–15 years and may need exchange.

Silicone or saline — which is better?
Most patients choose silicone gel for its more natural feel and movement. Saline is a reliable alternative and allows minor intra-operative size adjustment. Your surgeon will recommend based on your anatomy and preferences.
Above or below the muscle?
Submuscular (below) placement reduces visible rippling, is preferred for thinner patients, and is associated with lower capsular contracture rates. Subglandular (above) gives faster recovery and a slightly fuller upper-pole. Your surgeon will advise.
Where will my scar be?
Inframammary (in the breast crease) is the most common — hidden under the breast. Periareolar (around the nipple) is alternative. Transaxillary (underarm) avoids any breast scar but is less common.
Will I still be able to breastfeed?
Most patients retain the ability to breastfeed after augmentation. Periareolar incisions slightly increase the risk of breastfeeding difficulty.
How long do implants last?
Modern implants are durable but not lifetime devices. Many last 10–15+ years. Periodic imaging is recommended, and replacement may be needed eventually.
Will implants set off airport scanners?
No — modern implants do not contain metal and do not trigger security scanners.
When will I see final results?
Initial result is visible immediately but implants take 3–6 months to settle into their final, natural position. Scar fading continues for 12–18 months.
Is implant cancer (BIA-ALCL) a concern?
BIA-ALCL is an extremely rare lymphoma associated mainly with textured implants of one specific manufacturer (now withdrawn). We use only currently-approved implants with documented safety profiles.
Can I combine augmentation with a lift?
Yes — augmentation-mastopexy (lift + implant) is one of the most common combination procedures we perform, particularly after pregnancy or weight loss.
